“The Importance of Good Sportsmanship”

Good sportsmanship is a good characteristic that many people value in someone.

Many of us don’t know what it really means to be a good sport. When you have good sportsmanship you’re a team player, a trustworthy leader, and a smart polite person of character. Do you have good sportsmanship?

To be a good sport you need to choose the right. Do what you know is right, do good and you’ll feel good. If you do wrong you feel bad and know you did wrong. Sometimes decisions are hard but u know right from wrong, so why would you choose wrong? Everyone has a choice, we aren’t forced to do anything and our decisions are what makes up our character as well as our actions.
There is no need to have poor sportsmanship, so why be a bad person? Just choose the right and do good. If you do good, good will come back to you.

“Education is the key to unlock the golden gate of freedom.”

George Washington Cerver

Education is the key to your freedom. Think of the times when slavery was still around; the slaves that were free were educated! The enslaved ones were kept enslaved because of their lack of knowledge! If you’re intelligent, you know how to defend and stand up for yourself. You’re bound to be successful!

Student Responsibilities (Part 1)

Student Responsibilities

                              Part 1

Students have the right to seize their own destiny and should be encouraged to do so. With every right comes responsibility!

1.    I have the responsibility to come to every class prepared to listen, to participate, and to learn.

2.    I have the responsibility to read the text carefully noting important ideas and rephrasing concepts in my own words.

3.   I have the responsibility to work examples in the textbook and those given in class

4. I have the responsibility to consult other students, the teacher, an assistant, and other resources whenever I need extra help.

5. I have the responsibility to understand that the teacher is not primarily responsible for making me understand that the teacher is not primarily responsible for making me understand, but that it is my job to study and to learn.

6. I have the responsibility of keeping an open mind and trying to comprehend what the teacher is trying to get across.

Successful Students (Part 3)

Successful Students

Part 3

7. Successful students understand that actions affect learning. Successful students know their personal behavior affect their feelings and emotions that in turn can affect learning.

If you act in a certain way that normally produces particular feelings, you will begin to experience those feelings. Act like you’re bored, and you’ll become disinterested. So the next time you have trouble concentrating in the classroom, “act” like an interested person: lean forward place your feet flat on the floor, maintain eye contact with the professor, nod occasionally, take notes, and ask questions. Not only will you benefit directly from your actions, your classmates and professor may also get more excited and enthusiastic.

8. Successful students talk about what they’re learning. Successful students get to know something well enough that they can put it into words. Talking about something, with friends or classmates, is not only good for check whether or not you know something, it’s a proven learning tool. Transferring ideas into works provide the most direct path for moving knowledge from short-term to long-term memory. You don’t really “know” material until you can put it into words. So, next time you study, don’t do it silently. Talk about notes, problems, readings, ect. With friends, recite to a chair, organize an oral study group, pretend you’re teaching your peers. “Talk-learning” produces a whole host of memory traces that result in more learning.

9. Successful students don’t cram for exams. Successful students know that divided periods of study are more effective than cram sessions and they practice it.

This statement, I think, focuses on lazy people. Yes, it’s alright to find an easy way to do something, but if you cheat through life, it’s bound to catch up with you. It’s smarter to work hard and do it yourself. You’ll feel great inside! CHOOSE THE RIGHT!

“Decisions Determine Destiny”

Thomas S. Monson

This statement should be a personal motto to anyone trying to be anyone. Your decisions now will decide whether or not you will be successful in the future. If you choose the wrong now, you’re bound to end up in a bad place, later. If you choose the right now, you’re bound to be in a great place later. So, CHOOSE THE RIGHT!

Successful Students

Part 2

4. Successful students learn that a student and a teacher make a team. Most teachers want exactly what you want: they would like for you to learn the material in their respective classes and earn a good grade.

Successful students reflect well on the efforts of any teacher; if you have learned your material, the instructor takes some justifiable pride in teaching. Join forces with your instructor, they are not an enemy, you share the same interests, the same goals- in short, and you’re teammates. Get to know your professor. You’re the most valuable players on the same team. Your jobs are to work together for mutual success. Neither wishes to chalk up a losing season. Be a team player!

5. Successful students don’t sit in the back. Successful students minimize classroom distractions that interfere with learning. Students want the best seat available for their entertainment dollars, but willingly seek the worst seat for their educational dollars.

Successful Students (Part 1)

Successful Students

Part 1

Successful students exhibit a combination of successful attitudes and behaviors as well as intellectual capacity. Successful students

1.   Successful students are responsible and active. Successful students get involved in their studies, accept responsibility for their own education, and are active participants in it!

Responsibility means control. It’s the difference between leading and being led. Your own efforts control your grade, you earn the glory or deserve the blame, and you make the choice. Active classroom participation improves grades without increasing study time. You can sit there, act bored, daydream, or sleep. Or you can actively listen, think, question, and take notes like someone in charge of their learning experience. Either option costs one class period. However, the former method will require a large degree of additional work outside of class to achieve the same degree of learning the latter provides at one sitting. The choice is yours.

2.   Successful students have educational goals. Successful students have legitimate goals and are motivated by what they represent in terms of career aspirations and life’s desires. Ask yourself these questions: What am I doing here? Why have I chosen to be sitting here now? Is there some better place I could be? What does my presence here mean to

“Great beauty, great strength, and great riches are really and truly of no great use; a right heart exceeds all.”

Benjamin Franklin

I think this statement summarizes that you can be attractive, you can be strong, you can be rich, but it’s not worth anything if you don’t have the right heart. Honestly, if you’re rich, and everyone hates you, what’s the point? It’s best just to be a good person with a good heart, and that will help you become successful. So, choose the right!

Characteristics of A Successful Student

Characteristics of A Successful Student

Many students do not know what it takes to be successful in the educational environment. They understood good and bad grades in a general way, and they sense that they should attend classes, but that is where their knowledge begins and ends.

Most instructors know what a good student is – and is not. For one thing, a good student is not necessarily the most intelligent individual in the class.

The following is a list of some characteristics of good students. This list is description of what a hard-working student does and what a teacher likes to see. By learning these characteristics, you may better understand the day-to-day and class-to-class behavior of successful students. The idea is to provide you with guidelines you can follow which will help you get down to the business of becoming a serious, successful student.

“Right is right, even if everyone is against it. Wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it.”

-        William Penn

This statement is a prime example of working against peer pressure. If someone tells you to jump off a cliff, will you do it? You have to do the right, even if you’re told that you’re not “cool” for doing it. You know that it is right and you know you’ll feel good for doing it. If you do the wrong, some people might laugh and acknowledge you, telling you that you’re “cool”, though you know it was wrong. You’ll feel terrible after, though! So, always choose the right!

50 Habits of Successful People (44-47)

50 Habits of Successful People

44. They don’t rationalize failure. While many are talking about their age, their sore back, their lack of time, their poor genetics, their ‘bad luck,’ their nasty boss and their lack of opportunities (all good reasons to fail), they are finding a way to succeed despite all their challenges.

45. They have an off switch. They know how to relax, enjoy what they have in their life and to have fun.

46. Their career is not their identity, it’s their job. It’s not who they are, it’s what they do.

47. They are more interested in effective than they are in easy. While the majority look for the quickest, easiest way (the shortcut), they look for the course of action which will produce the best results over the long term.

By James Freeman Clark

This statement is very true if you think about it, what you do now can affect others, or yourself, later. Imagine, you choose the wrong, something big, and you will forever be infamous for it. That’d be terrible! Now, if you do something good, you’ll be remembered for your greatness!

Ian Chooses the Right

Ian Chooses the Right

In the video we watched today, it depicted a young boy, Ian, at a MLB game. He had tried to catch a rogue ball, and he did. Little did he know that it was someone else’s ball, someone who had dropped it.  As soon as Ian realized that, he promptly returned the ball, although I’m sure he had wanted to keep it. He returned it to the boy who had dropped it, Nicholas. This was seen through the cameras, and the announcers quickly praised him and said that they needed to reward him. They gave him a contract to four games and had him on TV.

Personally, I thought Ian chose the right. This was the kind, sweet, and right thing to do. He made himself feel good, as well as Nicholas, and got rewarded for it! When you do good, you feel good, and you get good!

“IT’S NOT LIVING THAT MATTERS, BUT LIVING RIGHTLY.”

BY Socrates

This statement, although it was written or said so long ago, still stands up in our society. What’s the point of living if you’re only going to burden yourself or others? You should always choose the right and strive to be a good and enjoyable person. As well, you should try to be successful. You’re no good to yourself, or others, if you’re lazy, rude, disrespectful, and foul-mouthed. So, CHOOSE THE RIGHT!

32. They are generous and kind. They take pleasure in helping others achieve.

33.  They are humble and they are happy to admit mistakes and to apologize. They are confident in their ability, but not arrogant. They are happy to learn from others. They are happy to make others look good rather than seek their own personal glory.

34. They are adaptable and embrace change, while the majorities are creatures of comfort and habit. They are comfortable with, and embrace, the new and the unfamiliar.

35. They keep themselves in shape physically, not to be mistaken with training for the Olympics or being obsessed with their body. They understand the importance of being physically well. They are not all about looks; they are more concerned with function and health. Their body is not who they are, it’s where they live.

23. They are more effective than most at managing their emotions. They feel like we all do but they are not slaves to their emotions.

25. They have a plan for their and they work methodically at turning that plan into reality. Their life is not a clumsy series of unplanned events and outcomes.

26.  Their desire to be exceptional means that they typically do things that most won’t. They become exceptional by choice. We’re all faced with life-shaping decisions almost daily. Successful people make the decisions that most won’t and don’t.

27. While many people are pleasure junkies and avoid pain and discomfort at all costs, successful people understand the value and benefits of working through the tough stuff that most would avoid.

29. They have balance. While they may be financially successful, they known that the terms money and success are not interchangeable. They understand that people, who are successful on a financial level only, are not successful at all. Unfortunately we live in a society which teaches that money equals success. Like many other things, money is a tool. It’s certainly not a bad thing but ultimately; it’s just another resource. Unfortunately, too many people worship it.
